The Whiskey Smash was listed in a bartender guide published in 1887, the same year our distillery was founded. Our Whiskey Smash is a riff on the original cocktail including our Bottled in Bond Bourbon, simply syrup, lemon and mint.
1½ oz Rieger’s Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
¾ oz simple syrup (1:1 sugar to water)
½ lemon, cut into 4
4-5 mint leaves
GLASSWARE: A rocks glass or tumbler
GARNISH: Mint sprig(s)
METHOD: In a cocktail shaker without ice, muddle the quartered ½ lemon with the simple syrup and mint leaves. Add Rieger’s Bottled in Bond Bourbon and ice followed by a vigorous shake for approximately 6-8 seconds. Double straining with a hawthorne strainer and a tea strainer, pour cocktail into a rocks glass with new ice and garnish with a bouquet of mint.
